Preaching & Teaching: Training for Pastors and Ministry Leaders
Strengthen the way you interpret scripture, shape a message, and communicate it with clarity.
You may already preach or teach regularly.
But that does not mean every sermon feels clear, every text feels easy to interpret, or every message lands the way you hoped.
Preaching & Teaching is a six-session online course for pastors, preachers, and ministry leaders who want to strengthen the full process of proclamation, from biblical interpretation to structure, communication, and delivery.
This course is especially useful for those who have some experience preaching or teaching and want to deepen both their theological grounding and their practical skill.
When You Know the Text but the Message Still Feels Hard to Shape
Preaching requires more than knowing scripture.
It asks you to interpret faithfully, identify what matters most, organize ideas clearly, communicate with conviction and care, and connect ancient texts with the lives people are actually living.
That can be difficult even for experienced preachers.
This course helps you slow down the process and strengthen the connection between interpretation, message development, and delivery.
What You Will Explore
Communication That Serves the Message
Examine what makes communication clear, engaging, and effective.
Consider how preaching and teaching can hold attention without becoming performative, and how your communication choices shape what listeners are able to receive.
The Larger Story of Scripture
Explore the overarching biblical narrative and how individual texts fit within the larger movement of Scripture.
This broader frame can help preachers avoid treating passages in isolation and support more coherent, faithful proclamation.
Exegesis
Strengthen your ability to attend carefully to the original meaning and intention of a biblical text.
Learn to distinguish between drawing meaning from the text and imposing meaning onto it.
Hermeneutics
Explore the interpretive work required to move from an ancient text into a contemporary context.
Consider historical and cultural background, literary context, observation, and application while asking how Scripture speaks meaningfully into life today.
Sermon Structure and Flow
A strong message needs more than good ideas.
Learn how to organize a sermon or teaching so that listeners can follow the movement of thought, understand the central message, and stay connected from beginning to end.
Delivery
Consider how context, conviction, clarity, compassion, and a Christ-centered approach can shape the way a message is delivered.
Strengthen your ability to communicate in a way that is both grounded and alive.
This Course Is for You If…
You preach or teach but never received formal ministry training.
You have formal theological training but still feel there are gaps in how you learned to preach.
You want sermons that are biblically grounded without becoming inaccessible.
You understand the importance of exegesis and hermeneutics but want greater confidence applying them in real preaching situations.
You want your messages to connect more clearly with the hearts, minds, and everyday lives of listeners.
Or you simply want a more intentional process for moving from biblical text to faithful proclamation.
Practice, Feedback, and Application
This course is not only about learning concepts.
Participants will have opportunities to workshop their own preaching or teaching material and apply what they are learning to real messages.
That means you can bring the work you are already doing into the course, test new approaches, receive feedback, and strengthen your practice in community.
What You Can Take Back Into Your Preaching
By the end of the course, you will be better equipped to:
- Interpret biblical texts with greater care
- Use exegesis and hermeneutics more intentionally
- Understand how individual passages connect to the larger biblical story
- Build stronger sermon structure and flow
- Communicate complex ideas more clearly
- Connect ancient texts with contemporary life
- Deliver messages with greater conviction, clarity, and compassion
- Develop a more repeatable process for preaching and teaching
From Faithful Interpretation to Clear Proclamation
Strong preaching is not simply about saying something memorable.
It is about handling Scripture faithfully, understanding the people in front of you, and shaping a message that can be heard, understood, and carried into daily life.
This course helps experienced and emerging preachers strengthen that entire process.
